Even though the Stickley girls have been in Hawaii for almost a week now, this is the first chance we've had to make a blog post.
The gang all got in on Monday afternoon and luckily Phipps was still here to drive a borrowed vehicle to the airport with me because we definitely couldn't have fit Emilie, Juneau, Nova, Laura and Laura's friend plus all the luggage into one Nissan Frontier...even if it is a crew cab.
Phipps left on Tuesday and I promise to post some cool pictures of the awesome hikes we did while he was here as soon as I get them from him.
Meanwhile, Emilie hit the job search full force right away. Tuesday she met with her first prospective employer...

While Emilie went out for a fancy dinner at the Ala Moana Center, the girls and I settled for pizza and a tired Nova almost fell asleep in my arms before dinner was over.
The interview went so well on Tuesday that a follow-up visit to the Hospital was scheduled for the next day which meant the girls stopped by my office with me for a bit...
From the pool it was over to Tim and Beth's for a much awaited reunion with Melody.
It takes three girls to squeeze this cool stress ball...
...and even with three, apparently it is still REALLY hard.
Juneau and Melody have adopted a new procedure where, when they first see each other, they don't scream...just to prove they can do it, I think (they are so much older and more mature now). Then, after they acknowledge that they didn't scream...they scream.
Of course our geeky tech girls have found some time to play some computer games...at least most of them are educational.
Emilie was back to meeting and interviewing with people on Friday and Saturday and we squeezed in a visit to where we are hoping to send the girls for pre-school in the fall.
We still had the energy to host a party on Saturday night so Emilie could see people and of course, to watch some UFC fights.
In typical fashion, Emilie went above and beyond with her food preparation...
In the end there was plenty of food and fun for 16 adults and 5 kids. The 2 boys generally kept their distance from the 3 girls (enjoying it while I can) and there was wildness aplenty.
And as if our week wasn't crazy enough, over the course of Thursday evening and Friday, we abused a used car dealer into agreeing to a price on a used car that caused him great pain. Such is the leverage of being in absolutely no hurry to find a car that we don't really need until next fall. We had walked away from their "final" price on Thursday night and said no to their "final final" price and their "final final final" price when they continued to chase us via 2 phone calls on Friday. When their "final final final final" price meant we only had to come up $250 from where we wanted, we gave in and so once again, we are the proud owners of a Prius...which is just in time as gas hit $4.20 on Oahu this weekend.
So, one more interview meeting tonight with the physician Emilie met back in the fall and and a 3rd get together with the original interview from Tuesday and hopefully Emilie will have a job lined up in Hawaii for the fall. Emilie hit it off really well with the guy on Tuesday night which led to the additional get together on Wednesday at his office and then the dinner tomorrow evening (which must be at least partially to check our Emilie's husband). The interviews and meetings the rest of the week have seemed to only reinforce with Emilie that she wants to join this practice. It looks like it is going to work out and Emilie will have a job but as always, it's not done until it's done so we appreciate the continued prayers.
We started this visit with grand hopes of 1) finding Emilie a job, 2) finding the girls a pre-school for next fall, and 3) possibly buying a car. It looks like we might go 3 for 3...keep your fingers crossed.
I'll finish this much overdue update with this must-see video. whoa you guys have been busy!!! Em, i'm so psyched to hear about your job prospects! that video at the end was the cutest thing ever. i love the part "he's bigger than the sea, he watches over you and me!" adorable.
