Juneau's 1st Month

Today was Juneau's 1st day at school...to mark the 1 month anniversary of Juneau finally joining our family, she spent the day with daddy at the University of Hawaii. As expected, she was quite the hit with my co-workers and students.

Though we've only been home not even 3 weeks yet, it seems like this little one has been with us all along and she already acts like she owns the place. So, after 1 month, here's what we know about Juneau:

Juneau is CONSTANTLY on the go...she always wants to be moving and exploring, undoubtedly trying to make up for any lost time from her first 10 months. She can't walk yet (though she's getting closer and closer) but she is a total climber. She can already climb up onto the back of the couch and into the windowsill by herself...a trick she clearly learned from watching Summit.

She can eat her bodyweight every day in bananas. Often, she will threaten to not eat any of her babyfood unless there is a piece of banana in each and every bite. We are currently keeping Chiquita in business.

Every night as bedtime approaches, Juneau gets really silly and loves to flop around on the couch and giggle. Eventually, a giggle becomes a small cry and it's off to bed. Once her head hits the pillow in her crib and the bottle hits her mouth, her eyes almost instantly close and she's off to dreamland within a few minutes. She likes a little drink in the middle of the night but will hold the bottle by herself and drift back to sleep until about 6:00. Nearly every morning I wake up to a beautiful little smile as she stands at the rail of her crib and "ahhhh's" at me to wake up.

In a mere 2 days, we get to go to the airport and unite our full family for the first time. Juneau loves babies and children so I know that she and Nova will hit it off great.

I am amazed everyday at what a beautiful, sweet little girl we have and I feel so incredibly blessed that somehow, from halfway around the world this precious one found her way into our family. I often think about how many times, while we were in Vietnam, a local would say to me, after realizing we had adopted her and were taken her back to the U.S., "she is very lucky." After even a short month of having Juneau as my little girl, I know they had it backwards.
