The Stickley family adventures started in Hawaii in 2005 when Cris and Emilie were married. The real excitement began in May 2008, when Nova was born. 2 short months later, our little June-Bug joined the family from all the way in Vietnam. The next few crazy years included Emilie being deployed to Afghanistan, while Cris and the girls moved back to Hawaii, then a long year of living apart (and a lot of trips across the Pacific Ocean), while Emilie remained in Colorado to complete her Army committment, and Cris had to stay in Hawaii for his job at the University.

In the summer of 2012, little Jude joined our family, and the whole gang reunited for good in Hawaii!

Follow our adventures, as we try to keep track of life with our 3 crazy kids, while keeping our friends and family updated on the happenings here in Hawaii!

Jack and the Beanstalk taught me that...

I know you are dying to know exactly what that title means but you'll have to read to the end to find out...I have to have some way to keep you reading while I perform a lengthy catch-up.

Unfortunately, my long month with Juneau and Nova is nearing an end and it will be back to Colorado for them. Luckily, before that happens we have a few more days, then a short Thanksgiving getaway of fun then I'll fly back to Hawaii by myself once again :( But, it is only about 3 more weeks after that until Christmas break and more time for fun.

A week ago, the normal Friday night activities got interrupted by a mass of world leaders descending on the tiny island of Oahu and totally tying up the world and traffic. So, instead of fireworks, we headed to Melody's house for playtime and Aunt Beth's planned cooking activity of the night: making banana bread. Smashing bananas and goofing off...

Finally time to try the banana bread:
Wow...what a shock...Nova is already dressed up like a princess...
Nova said this kaleidoscope was better than the fireworks we had to miss

Warming up for a good round of "Head Bands"
Watching 3 through 5 year olds trying to ask questions to figure out what is on their own head without accidentally guessing the same item that is on other people's heads is hilarious. They often don't get the concept as in the middle of Uncle Tim trying to figure out his "mushroom", Juneau pulled a piece of paper aside and just drew a picture of it for him since he was having trouble guessing. And it was a good enough picture that as soon as he saw it, he started laughing because it was clear to everyone is was a mushroom.
Group hugs at the end of the night.
Group hug taken to the next level...
The next night was party time at our house. All of the Uh PhD students descended on our place for some cookout, footbal and fights.

Nova was so excited to hear that baby Caleb was coming...you can see she was in heaven at the chance to hold him even though he, at 6 months is nearly as big as she is.

We let her hold him until she started complaining about her legs going numb...Just kidding but man do they grow those Romine boys BIG!!!
The other Romine boy was part of the craziness. The girls loved chasing Julian around the house..
Packed house...
And as always, I ended up with more beer in my refrigerator after everyone left than before they came. Everyone always brings their own, doesn't drink it all and leaves it in my fridge. I never drink any so it sits there until the next time people come over, bringing more and adding to the ever growing collection...next gathering we need to have an anti-BYOB just so we can clear out room in my fridge.
There were tired kids by the end of the night.
Becca was jealous of all the fun the kids were having in the "castle" and tried to see what all the hype was about but they kicked her out..."No Adults!"
Group hugs again to end the night.

Nova set up reading time for her horses...

This Friday night, fireworks were back on...
Another Friday - Same tree
Running around craziness
and more adventurous tree climbing

Tim is still in Costco blanket heaven...seriously, the thing is like the size of a football field.

This week the girls decided climbing the tree alone had gotten tiresome so they were intent on adding another layer of difficulty by trying to play ball in the tree.

Juneau trying to get the ball into the tree...

I'll close with Nova's most recent classic quote: While talking with mommy on the phone - from the back seat of the truck I heard:

"mommy, even when you're far away you're still in my heart... Jack and the Beanstalk taught me that. He learned it at his school".
