First Day of School

Today was the BIG DAY the girls had been waiting for...the first day of school!

Despite having to teach until 10:00 pm last night, I was able to get everything ready and all the clothes laid out so that when the alarm went off and Juneau stumbled into my room, we were ready to hit the ground running.

A good breakfast before school...despite these faces, they were actually quite awake and excited to get to school.  I don't know why but for some reason, Nova really reminds me of her Matus cousins in this picture.

 Mommy had sent a great first day of school care package that arrived just in time yesterday so I could have it waiting for them this morning when they woke up.  They loved the little doggies (now named Rosie and Bella) so much they refused to pose for their first day of school photo without them.

And yes, Juneau is getting darker and darker by the moment.  The trip to the pool yesterday sent her about 4 more shades in that direction.  Her arms are truly just about black at this point.  You can even notice in this picture though that the constant goggle wearing in the pool yesterday resulted in a bit lighter tint to the rings around her eyes :) 

At this point, we were dressed, breakfast done and hair and teeth brushed and we were actually ahead of schedule on day 1.  We actually played with the doggie toys for a few minutes so we didn't leave too early.

Finally, it was out the door and on our way for day 1...

Despite getting out the door and on the road exactly on time, the traffic on Kamehameha highway was stopped and backed-up with a lane closed due to a bad driver choosing today to run through a telephone pole and off the road out onto the actual piece of ocean front property just down the road from us that I've been trying to convince Uncle Tim and Aunt Beth to buy and build a house so we can be neighbors :)

Luckily, the delay was apparently exactly as long as I had overestimated the time it would take to get to school because we were exactly on time when we arrived despite sitting in stopped traffic for a bit.

Outside the classroom - the girls are ready to get started on a great year.

It is hard to believe our little June-Bug is officially in kindergarten...

Nova actually looked a little tentative when I left her in her classroom but the joyous rambling recount of the day that I got after school meant she must have gotten over that quick.

The first day was only a half day to ease everyone into it which meant unfortunately that due to my Tuesday afternoon Anatomy class, I wasn't able to pick them up from school but Grandma Stickley braved the crowd of parents to get the girls safely home from day 1 for our Kindergartner and Pre-schooler.

Meanwhile in Colorado:  Emilie's testing revealed she is RIGHT ON THE BORDERLINE at the moment and as of right now is scheduled to get on a plane this Saturday and be in Hawaii Saturday night (a week and a half earlier than previously planned) as long as things stay where they are.  Pray that she will hold steady where she is, that those blood pressures will work their way down and that she and Jude will stay safe and healthy flying from Colorado to Hawaii.
