The Stickley family adventures started in Hawaii in 2005 when Cris and Emilie were married. The real excitement began in May 2008, when Nova was born. 2 short months later, our little June-Bug joined the family from all the way in Vietnam. The next few crazy years included Emilie being deployed to Afghanistan, while Cris and the girls moved back to Hawaii, then a long year of living apart (and a lot of trips across the Pacific Ocean), while Emilie remained in Colorado to complete her Army committment, and Cris had to stay in Hawaii for his job at the University.

In the summer of 2012, little Jude joined our family, and the whole gang reunited for good in Hawaii!

Follow our adventures, as we try to keep track of life with our 3 crazy kids, while keeping our friends and family updated on the happenings here in Hawaii!

Day 92: It's Aloha Friday!

Posted by: Cris

Those of you who know Hawaii are now humming the "It's Aloha Friday" song...don't try to deny it!

This was a much needed Aloha Friday after a week that seemed particularly busy, long and tiring.

With a scene like this, the day was off to a good start. The girls were bright-eyed and ready for a full day of fun.

Lunchtime
MMMMMM...Peanut Butter!
Tonight, instead of the usual fireworks, everybody came to our side of the island and we met up at the Hokulani Imaginarium (planetarium) and watched a cool show of Earth, Moon and Sun. The kids loved it.

It took approximately 3 seconds from the time we showed up outside the planetarium until the games started.
There was a game of Ring Around the Rosie underway immediately.
"We All Fall Dooooown!"
During the show, the kids were all spellbound. Juneau sat on my lap and every single thing that came on the screen was followed by a "Whoa!!" from Juneau. Nova was happy to settle in on Aunt Beth's lap.
After the show, back out on the lawn, the kids got back to playing. We figured we could have just brought them to play on the lawn the whole time and not even gone to the show and they would have been completely satisfied.

Since the show actually involved getting tickets, we couldn't afford to get started on a meal beforehand and miss the event like we usually do with fireworks so we headed out after the show for a late dinner.

Nova and Melody holding hands - could it get any cuter? (With dads like that, this picture definitely couldn't get any cuter)
Nova was thrilled when Alyssa decided she was fine with sharing her baby doll. Alyssa didn't see that baby again until it was time to leave as Nova kept a monopoly on it
Like moths to a lightbulb, the phone games always draw them in...
Goodnight Oma...we love you!!
Other than the supercool planetarium show and hanging out with the Melody and Alyssa, the highlight of the day was Nova wearing her big girl panties all night and not having a single accident, including the whole time we were in the planetarium. When we finally made it to the restroom at the restaurant and Nova was still dry, she said "I'm not a baby anymore daddy." (translation:"Just so you know daddy, I could've been potty trained anytime I wanted, I just didn't want to until now")
The other highlight for me: Juneau will always ask when we are in the car on the way home from something at night "Daddy, will you carry me to bed"..."If you fall asleep in the car I will carry you to bed." So tonight, we were close to home and there was no time for her to actually fall asleep but she REALLY wanted me to carry her to bed so when I stop the car at home and get out, Juneau looks to be asleep but is clearly faking...still, for a 3 year old, she is doing a great job faking it - no laughing, nothing. I say "Are you asleep Juneau and need me to carry you to bed" and without even changing her blank "I'm asleep" expression, nods her head so subtly you can barely even see it. I'm obviously a big fan of carrying a sleeping girl (even if she is faking) down to bed so I snapped her up and headed for bed.
Luckiest dad in the world!!
