yesterday i recieved 3 care packages in the mail!!! it was amazing!!! thank you to my midwife friend susan, my med school friend jess, and my sister-in-law sonya! i even scored some homemade chocolate chip cookies from Aunt Toni's recipe (now also known as the 1 pound butter cookies....oh yes, they are good and buttery). anyway, my little cubicle is all decked out in christmas gear, which makes me very happy. and i had lots of little goodies to share with the medics, which also makes me very happy. all in all it's been a pretty good last few days.
the rodent situation seems to be under better control. I have 3 traps set and ready, but haven't caught anything in a few days. last night i woke up suddenly at about 3 a.m and thought i heard a trap snapping. then i coudln't fall back asleep because i was obsessing about whether it would be better to try to get the mouse out of the trap so i could reuse it, or to just through the whole thing away and call it a loss. eventually i fell asleep (still undecided) but i was so obsessed that i had a dream that i had 2 or 3 mice in EACH trap, and actually there were several birds in on of the traps as well! haha! obsessing here a bit i guess :)
the weather continues to be extremely pleasant. sunny but cool in the afternoon. it does get chilly when the sun goes down, but overall it is nice. there are some pretty mountains out in the distance, and the sky is bright and beautiful at night.
oh, i guess there was a bit of drama in the clinic yesterday morning. The guards at the detainee camp called frantically because one of the detainees was supposedly having a seizure. well, they brought the guy over, and he was HUGE! he was built like a samoan linebacker he weighed about 300 pounds! I had no idea that afghani's could be so big. he was lying on the stretcher unrestrained! the other doc was like "come on guys, you cannot bring this prisoner in here unrestrained! he's as big as a bear! he could take us all down if he starts swinging". which was indeed true. fortunately he was no longer having a seizure (if he ever really was...i'm still not too sure about that part of it). anyway, the whole thing made me a little anxious, and i was glad there was another doc there with me. Unfortunately the other doc and the other PA are both being sent "forward" to small army posts up in the mountains for a month. i would kind of like to do a bit of traveling, and see some of the more remote locations, but apparently there is a lot more action up in the mountains, and less protection. The aid station there gets fired on nearly daily, so i guess i'll just be happy to stay back behind the wire at my relatively safe little aid station.
anyway, hope everyone is having a fun time getting ready for the holidays! i know cris and the girls are going to have a blast in the ohio snow for christmas!!
