Nova loves to sing: "Rain, rain, go away...come again some other day...Nova & Juneau want to play."
And it would be appropriate at this point since it's been raining nearly non-stop for about 48 hours and is supposed to keep coming for another 48 hours at least.
Stormy skies over the ocean...
There have been a few differences to get used to living on this side of the island. With this rainy weather at this time of year and us living up on the side of a mountain directly above the ocean, the storms come off the ocean and we are in the middle of a cloud. My little weather / thermometer unit said 88% humidity the whole day. Everything in the house is noticeably damp and the moisture that collects on the windowsills is so "straight off of the ocean" that when it dries off, it leaves a layer of white ocean salt on the sill. It's actually very cool.
So, we had a day at home today, just hanging out and playing and doing odd jobs around the house.
It is incredibly cute to see how much Juneau and Nova just expect the other one is always part of their world. When I let them watch a show, they climb up on our huge couch and sit right next to each other and both get under the blanket. They also are in their own little world together when they are in their sissy bed. They will rub each other's back at bedtime and talk and play and the world is no bigger than their little patch of life. It really is such a unique experience to have a sibling that has just "always been there." None of us really ever experience that (well, except Alex & Lyndsey) so it is hard to imagine how natural it seems for the other one to always be there but more and more I see it in Juneau and Nova.
Grainy and poorly lit but still as cute as can be...
It definitely is not worth Emilie being gone all this time, but the deployment has given me a chance to experience parenthood like few dad's ever get to. There are times like today when the girls just want to be near me every second and it melts my heart. Even though the girls spent this afternoon getting caught up on the lack of sleep yesterday with a 3 hour nap, when they got up, Nova asked to lay on my chest and cuddle - so I quickly abandoned whatever project I was working on and spent the next hour laying on the couch with my beautiful girl.
Tonight, it was Juneau's turn to come pull me away from a project and ask me to cuddle - and since she was already on the couch watching a show before bed, got up and walked out to the kitchen to get me to come cuddle on the couch, I knew she wasn't just manipulating me to be allowed to watch a show :)
