The Stickley family adventures started in Hawaii in 2005 when Cris and Emilie were married. The real excitement began in May 2008, when Nova was born. 2 short months later, our little June-Bug joined the family from all the way in Vietnam. The next few crazy years included Emilie being deployed to Afghanistan, while Cris and the girls moved back to Hawaii, then a long year of living apart (and a lot of trips across the Pacific Ocean), while Emilie remained in Colorado to complete her Army committment, and Cris had to stay in Hawaii for his job at the University.

In the summer of 2012, little Jude joined our family, and the whole gang reunited for good in Hawaii!

Follow our adventures, as we try to keep track of life with our 3 crazy kids, while keeping our friends and family updated on the happenings here in Hawaii!

Day 6: What Was the Highlight of Your Day?

Posted by: Cris (post by Emilie below)

If you asked each of the three of us what the best part of our day was, the answer would be clear.

The rainy season is here so today was dreary and drizzly all day on the entire island. Definitely NOT the highlight of my day. Contrary to popular belief, everyday is Hawaii isn't perfect weather.
Cris' Highlight: I got home from work today while the girls were still napping. After a bit, I heard some rustling downstairs and when I got to the bottom of the stairs, Juneau had wandered out from her room into the hall. It took her a minute, but when she realized it was me she got the biggest smile and let out an enthusiastic "Daddy!!" as she ran and jumped in my arms. (Wait, it get's better). We walked down the hall to the girl's room and peeked in. Nova was awake and when I stepped into the room and she saw it was me coming to get her, the sweetest "Nova smile" enveloped her face (you know the one) and she jumped up and literally jumped onto me with her arms wrapped around my neck as tight as she could. Does it get any better than that?

Juneau & Nova's Highlight:

Runner-up: The last couple of days we have been getting the boxes in the mail that we sent to ourselves from Ohio. So today, when the girls got up they were greeted by several of their favorite toys that they hadn't seen for several weeks including some Little Einstein's dolls and their alphabet toy for the refrigerator. You can imagine how thrilled they were.
They played with that thing for a good half hour. Juneau immediately wanted to start spelling words. For a while now she has been able to sound out words completely but can't quite make the transition to realizing what the word is. Today, when I put "B-A-T" up, for the first time after sounding out the letters a couple of times she said "BAT". Super Cool. But not the highlight of the day.
Actual highlight of the day:
Getting their toys in the mail would have been the highlight if not for this - Tonight, I needed to go out and get some groceries so we headed out to get a bite to eat and decided to go to the Windward Mall which is just down the road. As a nice side note: A regular steak plate lunch from Blazing Steaks is the perfect size to feed me and 2 little girls for just $6.
We have never completely explored that mall since we just moved to this part of the island so we decided to walk around a bit. We had walked pretty much the entire mall and were walking down to the last end of the mall when we spotted this:
Yes, that is a bona fide "shopping play" at the Windward Mall!!
And I would venture to say that it is at least as good as the old one in Colorado.
This was clearly the highlight of Juneau & Nova's day, if not their week.
They thought it was awesome to have to "help" each other up onto the various structures.
If I wasn't totally convinced before that moving to this part of the island was the right choice, I am now.
