learning to live at a different pace...

life on deployment certainly moves at a different pace. Everything literally takes at least 10 times longer than it does at home. Patience isn't necessarily one of my strong points, and it gets very frustrating waiting for such simple things as the internet to load the home page. I am slowly learning to go with the very slow flow here, however.
here is a picture from our "picnic" the other night...it's funny how you really look forward to such simple little things, and enjoy the things so easily taken for granted back home. The homemade jams were a big hit, so if anyone wants and idea for a real treat in a care package, that would surely be enjoyed :) well, the big news of the evening is the rodent that apparently is sharing my living space. i do not do well with mice (or rats, bugs, spiders and snakes....all of which apparently have been found sharing our living quarters!) My excpetionally handy and fearless husband has always been the one to handle the occasional pest around our house, and i suddenly found myself feeling rather helpless when i saw the fuzzy thing running across my floor. so, i located a trap, which is now set in the exact spot i saw the little bugger, and i guess i will just wait until he comes out again. i'm not quite sure what i will do with him once i catch him, as that is also usually handled by the afore mentioned handy and brave husband, but i guess i will figure it out. i was feeling really grossed out by the mouse on the floor, until i was informed at dinner that one of the guys had a camel spider in his bed. also, apparently there are actual huge cobras hanging around. there are some porta-johns out behind the living quarters, which i have found are quite convenient at 2 a.m. (as opposed to walking several buidlings down in the very dark, cold and scary night). after hearing about the cobra that was hanging out in the porta-john this summer though, i think i will brave the dark, cold, and scary night rather than take a chance of sharing a porta-john with a cobra.
